About the Qualifications

City & Guilds Certificates of Competence are life-long (with the exception to Vertebrate Pest Control for Rats and Mice (PA- R&M)) and developed in conjunction with Industry. Assessments test candidate's knowledge and practical expertise. Please note that candidates are required to undertake regular refresher training (every 3-5 years) to comply with industry regulations and Health & Safety law. For Utility Arboriculture candidates are required to undertake refresher training every 3 years.

Majority of assessments are independent.  Some qualifications are offered as non-independent meaning that the assessor can also train the candidate.

What is included?  Assessment, registration with City & Guilds, paper certificate, E-certificate, Digital ID Card and Digital Credential.  For CPD a Digital ID Card is not issued.

Where will I be assessed?  Normally at your Training Provider's site or your own site (subject to meeting the assessment requirements).

Do I need to provide my own equipment?  Candidates must provide their own equipment and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) unless agreed in advance with the training provider/Norfolk Proficiency Tests Committee.   See Information & Price List for an indication of PPE requirements.

Pre-requisites:  Some qualifications require that a pre-requisite/s must be achieved before being assessed.  If you achieved the equivalent pre-requisite through another awarding body, certificate evidence must be provided to Norfolk Proficiency Tests Committee prior to registration.  Training attendance is not achievement of a qualification.  To check if you have met the pre-requisite/s or for more information Get In Touch

Assessors:  We work with qualified City & Guilds Assessors with years of industry experience and technical expertise. Each assessor is subject to regular Quality Assurance checks to ensure they maintain the required high standards of City & Guilds.

If you are attending a training course the assessment will normally take place on a separate day (exceptions are PA1 and some non-independent assessments such as Woodchipper depending upon candidate numbers).

To arrange an assessment:

  • Please download and complete the Registration Form.
  • Email a scan/photo of your official ID evidence, i.e. photocard driving licence or passport.
  • Provide a passport-style photo (shoulders upwards against a plain, light background) in jpg format.  Candidates must have a neutral expression and no headwear or logos should be worn. Many people take a 'selfie' on their phone.    This is required for your ID card.

Please email the above to NPTC@ccn.ac.uk confirming what you/your employees would like to be assessed in and provide a rough indication of timescales.  Please confirm your contact details.  We will then contact you to discuss and arrange the assessment.
